Hunger pangs.

Its the second time in two weeks. It happened the first time with my second reading of Namesake. Jhumpa Lahiri makes wine so much a part of the American life, that my craving only a bitter glass of red wine can satiate. "Two Merlots Please" is what Gogol orders when he meets Moushumi on his first date in the bar. Or atleast I think he does. Where I am, running down to a store and buying red wine is not an option. In fact there is almost no choice. Instead, I spent 2 days drinking coffee and eating dark chocolate to replicate the taste. My heart still longs ... Maybe this weekend I'll find a way.

After savoring Namesake, it was time to go lighter on reading and heavier on food. Bill Bryson's Neither here nor there, brought back fond memories of Italy. I did not fall in love with Italy like everyone else. I fell in love with the Pizza. The best Pizza was in Rome in a small restaurant which we went into because it was getting late. They made the best Pizza with olive oil for a dressing, vegetables generously heaped, with a sprinkling of orergano and other spices. As Bryson throws in a few words on his food habits while at Naples, and Rome (in contrast to Switzerland), all I could think of was Pizza. How I wish I could sit down and eat that again. And at 11 in the night, I did just that. Ordered and ate Dominos. Not exactly what I remember, but I sure do not mind.
